Nicknamed ‘phishing’ sites, these web sites catch out more people than you would expect. These ‘phishing’ scams often start with an official looking email from your Credit Card Company or bank requesting you follow a link to update or confirm your personal information. Once the link has bee clicked, the site it take the user to is exactly what that user is expecting to see but is indeed a fake. Once you enter your credit card or bank information, criminals can access your account at any time.

These sites rely on you following a link, by entering the web address in yourself manually; you can get around the problem. You can do this by opening up a new browser and entering the address as you know it. As a rule of thumb, just remember that financial institutions almost never ask for private information via an email. Any site that is legitimate, and can accept credit cards online will understand your hesitation and will be happy to answer any questions you may have for them.
