Credit Card Payment Processing

There are a number of facts you should be made aware of before you use your credit card online. If you run an internet business you must be able to handle credit card transactions. Small businesses find that visitors to their site are less likely to use their credit card if the site is not secure. So to make sure people feel safe ordering from you and using their credit cards, your site must be secure.

On some sites you visit, you may have seen a small logo called [verisign], this means that the site is secure and you can use your credit card safely. Nothing is ever completely secure but it does give you a sense of relief when you give your details online. If potential customers get the impression you are doing everything to make their purchase secure then they are more likely to buy from you.

You should always bear this in mind when you shop online. Not every site that will accept you credit card is safe. You can look for the Verisign logo, but there is something else you should look for as well. A secure web site has the address https:// and not the usual http:// when you look at the address bar in your browser.

Credit Card Payment Processing...

Take care however; some sites are used as decoys to collect credit card details from unwary users. This new type of site is called a phishing site and many people fall foul of them. Be wary of communications, usually emails, from what appears to be your bank or credit card company asking you to follow a link and update your details. When you click on the link, it takes you to a site that looks like the one you are expecting to see, but it is, in fact, not the real thing. The criminals behind this scam will have immediate access to your account as soon as your details are entered.

If you are unsure of the site, don’t follow the link directly but enter the internet address in yourself manually. So, as a get around, start up a new browser window and enter the web address in manually as you remember it. It is unlikely that a company will contact you via an email message to confirm information of a confidential nature. Problems are usually handles by telephone in the first instance. It’s easy to check the website for a telephone number if you’re not sure. A legitimate site will completely understand your hesitancy to divulge credit card details and answer any questions.
